Wang This study aims to explore the effect of digital books on 4th graders learning of Chinese character recognition. The research purpose of this study is to understand how digital books impact learning outcomes, including learners recalling and applying performance of Chinese characters. In addition, students perception of learning difficulty and motivation were collected. We had eleven 4th. Show full abstract graders as participants, and they were randomly assigned into 2 groups with different textbook formats; one was a traditional paper-based book group and the other was a digital book group. The results show that there was no significant difference in the improvement of character recall between groups. However, in the character applying level, learner improvement in the digital book group was significantly better than that of the traditional book group. Students learning motivation in the digital book group was also significantly higher. The study showed that digital books increased learners character applying performance and motivation.
